Fashion Columbia Preview Luncheon & Fashion Show 2008

On Tuesday, May 13th, Columbia College Chicago will present a Fashion Columbia Preview Luncheon at InterContinental Chicago, 505 N. Michigan Ave., Grand Ballroom from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $75 general admission, $125 for VIP seating and $1,250 for corporate tables of ten. For tickets call Columbia Ticket Center, 312.344.6600 or go to www.colum.edu/tickets. Tickets may also be purchased with a check or credit card at the door the day of the show.

Columbia alumna, Michelle Alegria (’97) of ABC’s 7 “190 North,” will host the luncheon and fashion show. While studying at Columbia, Alegria interned at ABC 7. It was her dream to work at the station as a television journalist. In 2002 Alegria joined “190 North” as a weekly correspondent. Her work on the show has garnered her two Emmy Awards.

Alergria is the ‘fashionista’ of the “190 North” team and often contribute fashion-related stories that focus on Chicago’s fashion scene. She is the owner of a children’s clothing boutique in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood.

This is the first time in Fashion Columbia’s 11-year history that the college has held a preview of its most popular public event. The Fashion Columbia Preview Luncheon will showcase the work of eight fashion design seniors in a 20-minute fashion show. Each designer will have three garments shown. The proceeds will benefit scholarships for students in the college’s fashion study programs.

Fashion Columbia Preview Luncheon Benefit Committee: Averill Leviton, Susan Downing, Shelley Rosen, Nancy Thompson and Eliza Nichols, dean of Columbia School of Fine and Performing Arts.

On Wednesday, May 14 at 1000 S. Wabash at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Fashion Columbia will kick-off Manifest, an annual urban arts festival that celebrates undergraduate and graduate student bodies of work. Tickets to the matinee show are free for students with a valid student I.D. and $35 general admission. The cost of the evening show and reception is $35 for students with a valid student I.D. and $60 general admission. To purchase tickets call 312.344.6600 or go to www.colum.edu/tickets. Tickets will be held at the door. Tickets may also be purchased with cash at the door the day of the show.

Fashion Columbia showcases the work of Columbia’s fashion design students. The designs are the students’ original creations from inception to the final hem. The show is produced by fashion design and retail management students enrolled in the Fashion Show Production Class, under the direction of Nena Ivon, Manager of Public Relations Special Events/Fashion for Saks Fifth Avenue.
