The Marriage of Geometry and Gesture Exhibition

ABSTRACT IMAGES OFFER METAPHORS OF EXISTENCE

WHAT:"The Marriage of Geometry and Gesture: The Paintings and Drawings of Owen McHugh 1962-2003"

The work of artist Owen McHugh, according to curator Corey Postiglione, "is an amalgam of two very distinct abstract motifs: geometric planes and painterly passages. Color and atmosphere are also central to his art."

McHugh notes that his "configurations [are] at once solid and infinite [and] may suggest a metaphor of existence. They are meant as images of contemplation."

The selections from McHugh's body of work include works on paper in acrylic paints, chalk and colored pencil and works on canvas in acrylic paint.

This exhibition is the second in the "Surveying Chicago Artists" series curated by Corey Postiglione.
