The symposium features Thelma Golden, Deputy Director of Exhibitions and Programs for the Studio Museum in Harlem; Hamza Walker, Director of Education at the Renaissance Society; Al Loving, a key member of the African-American Abstactionist Movement; and Franklin Sirmons, an independent curator and cultural critic. Columbia professor Amy Mooney is the moderator.
The critics and artists will respond to queries regarding the state of black art today and the historic points that continue to influence and inform the expectations of artists of African descent.
